It’s been a long time since my last posting, and this is due to the sheer amount of work going on at NMCG. One of the many things currently taking up my time is a complete facelift across the company.
This week, NMCG is officially unveiling it’s new logo and brand. You will see the new logo and colour scheme gracing this blog, and if you deal directly with any of our consultants, on the business cards, email signatures and letterheads (sharp-eyed users of our Basecamp project management system would have noticed the change earlier than others).
In this post I’ll go through why, and how we came to this.
Why is NMCG Rebranding?
As the company has grown, with new consultants coming on board and refocussing the type of work we do, we felt it was time for a fresh new image. Something new that reflected the approach we take on our projects. While very serviceable at the time, our old logo and colour scheme were designed in a rush to quickly complement the launching of a new company.
In summary; we needed a new colour scheme and unique logo with a strong statement, that better represented us as a company of talented new media consultants.
Design Process
Michael Widgery, an NMCG consultant (see some of his other work at NewBrand), was brought on-board for the design role. Michael brought a wealth of experience, and we felt he was best placed to share our vision in this process.
The Brief:- Design something that reflects the fresh and innovative nature of the work carried out by NMCG.
Michael provided some initial concepts, from which I have compiled a selection on the right here (click on the thumbnail for a larger version). We then began the selection and refining process. The logo format we ultimately settled on was tweaked to make the ‘G’ more readable, amongst a number of other small tweaks.
You can see some of the variations here with the final logo at the top (again - click for larger version):-
Finally
In Michael’s own words:
The new logo was designed to be simple, strong and fresh - all outlooks NMCG is striving for. To convey this, clean lines were used for the logo, and the basic square shape used in the type is reflective of square pixels - a tie in with the online work of NMCG. Colours were kept fresh and vibrant to mirror the attitude of the company. The pink to reflect the creativity inside the company and the grey conveying a solid background and knowledge. On the stationery an italic font was used to suggest a forward moving and innovative company.
And I think NMCG’s new corporate ID has succeeded in this very well!
The NMCG corporate website will also be launched soon with this new look, and my next post will detail the design process behind that. Until then, we have some posts from our consultants coming up, with valuable advice and analysis on new media related subjects.
As an aside - if you are interested in the design aspects detailed here and want more info on designing logo’s and corporate id’s, I highly recomment you check out the Logo Designer Blog.
